Structure & Meeting Guidelines

In this section of the toolkit you’ll find some general guidelines on the structure of an evening.

What should an evening look like?

  • We want these groups to work for the individuals in them, so we don’t want to be too prescriptive, but we think time-wise, two hours would be about right

  • It would also be good to spend the first 15 minutes or so in general conversation, finding out how everyone in the group is doing, to help build relationships

  • If you’re able, we’d love for you to include worship in some or all of your meetings

So, if your meeting lasts for 2 hours, that might break down to around 15 minutes of catching up, 15 minutes worship, an hour of study, and about 30 minutes prayer, give or take.

So what does a Homegroup look like?

Over a series of weeks, a Homegroup should have a variety of activities, which include regular Bible studies, worship, prayer ministry, and activities such as Lectio Divina, prayer & prophecy nights , taking communion together, and purely social evenings.

Below is an example schedule of 6 weeks in the life of a homegroup, showing the kind of frequency with which all these activities might be included. Please note, this is in no way prescriptive, just an example if it’s helpful!
