Perseverance, not perfection, pleases God. We're setting out to be lifelong learners.
Paul tells us that he considers everything as loss for the surpassing worth of knowing Christ; that’s where we find our salvation and who we truly are.
To follow Christ's example of humility, Paul gives us a couple of examples of guys who are living it out.
We don't become humble by trying to be humble, but by imitating Christ in his vocation, radical obedience, and service.
Paul writes to explain to his friends how he is doing, and how the Gospel is doing, since his imprisonment. How is the Gospel doing, amongst us?
Paul has not entered into friendship with the Philippians lightly, so the Philippians have clearly done a great deal extremely well. Yet he still encourages them to greater heights, in a tick-tock rhythm of encouragement: “Well done”; "Move on”.
